AI transformation starts with people

The future of work is here. And at Mitie, AI isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a movement powered by people.

After years of building strong digital foundations, Mitie has taken the bold next step: investing in its people through AI apprenticeships, delivered by Corndel, in partnership with Imperial Executive Education and supported by Microsoft. This is where ambition meets action – blending expert coaching, business-relevant learning and tailored programmes that make AI practical, accessible and exciting for every role.

From frontline colleagues spotting new opportunities, to leaders re-imagining how AI can streamline work, the Academy is sparking change across the organisation. As one participant shared: “I am in that mindset now of actually questioning, why are we not doing it that way? Why are we not using AI?"

The result? People are not just adapting to change – they’re driving it. Mitie’s AI Academy is proof that when you put people at the centre, transformation doesn’t just follow… it accelerates.

Building trust and ethics in AI adoption

True adoption is about building the trust and confidence to use AI responsibly. As Cijo Joseph, Chief Technology and Digital Officer at Mitie explained: “People are already using AI in their personal lives – from ChatGPT to Alexa – but in a business context, there’s still a gap in confidence and trust. This programme is helping close that gap, equipping colleagues with the skills and techniques to apply AI safely, securely and effectively in their day-to-day roles.”

From learning to lasting impact

The Mitie Digital Academy is about action. Participants describe how the programme has reshaped their mindset, giving them the confidence to experiment, question the status quo and embrace new tools.

For some, it’s about efficiency: “Now it’s my go-to – how can I use Copilot to make this process smarter and more streamlined?” For others, it’s about sparking curiosity: “I’m constantly asking, why aren’t we doing it this way with AI?”

The impact goes beyond individual growth. Colleagues are sharing their knowledge with teams, spreading new ways of working and embedding AI into everyday culture. This ripple effect is what true transformation looks like – confidence and capability multiplying across the organisation.

With every participant who grows, learns and shares, Mitie proves that small steps add up to extraordinary change.
