What National Apprenticeship Week taught us about AI readiness, confidence and real capability

Share:

During National Apprenticeship Week, we brought together thousands of leaders, managers and professionals to explore a simple but urgent question: how do organisations move from AI curiosity to real, operational capability?

What we learned was striking. The conversation has shifted. The question is no longer “What is AI?” - it’s “How do we use it well?”

Ambition is high. But confidence is uneven. Governance is still forming.

For senior leaders responsible for embedding AI and data skills across their organisation, that gap between ambition and execution is now the defining challenge.

The readiness gap is real

Our 2025 Workplace Training Report research reveals a striking disconnect:

  • 97% of HR leaders say they’ve provided AI training
  • Only 39% of employees report receiving it
  • Just 14% rate it as highly effective
  • 75% have had no data training in the past 12 months

AI initiatives are often positioned as transformational. Yet, as Jake O’Gorman, Director of Data, Tech and AI Strategy at Corndel, puts it:

“AI initiatives are often sold on their transformative impact, yet the reality is that many organisations are still underprepared for their deployment.”

The issue isn’t access to tools. It’s capability.
